AT 2: Advanced Course ATEX Atmosphere Risk Analysis and Equipment Suitability

Last edit: 17/07/2025

Training objective

TARGET: Technical departments of machinery manufacturers.

OBJECTIVES: The training covers the entire AT 1 programme. It goes on to illustrate the methodology for correct risk analysis and reduction in the presence of a potentially explosive atmosphere. Electrical” protection methods such as intrinsic safety or explosion-proof enclosures are detailed. The risk of ignition due to shock, friction or electrostatic charge is also analysed.

DURATION AT 2: 8 hours (AT 1)+ 8 hours= 16 hours

Instructor

GT Engineering is a member of the following Technical Committees and Working Groups related to Explosion Hazard:

  • TC 31J Classification of hazardous areas and installation requirements. It is the IEC technical committee that writes the standards for the classification of ATEX areas (IEC 60079-10)
  • CEI working group that is preparing the revision of the GAS and Dust guides used in Italy for the classification of ATEX areas (CEI 31-35 and CEI 31-56)
  • CEN TC 305 Potentially explosive atmospheres – Explosion prevention and protection. It is the CEN technical committee that writes the standards for explosion risk analysis (e.g. EN 1127-1)
  • IEC 60079-46 for risk analysis and marking of ATEX assemblies. Member IEC/TC 31/MT 60079-46 ‘Equipment assemblies’.
  • IEC 60079-42 for use of ‘SIL’ components for explosion risk reduction. Member IEC/TC 31/WG 42 ‘Safety Devices Related to Explosion Risk’.
