It should now be more clear that this section deals with <strong>the disconnection of all power supplies of the machine electrical equipment<\/strong>. It would be a good idea also to change the title of Chapter 5 of IEC 60204-1 &#8220;Incoming supply conductor terminations and devices for disconnecting and switching off&#8221;. But this will not be discussed before the next 5 years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">Regarding the need for a door interlock, here what the standard requires:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\"><span style=\"line-height: 107%;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size: 10.0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia',serif;\"><span style=\"color: #1a1a1a;\">6.2.3.1 Enclosure Interlocking.\u00a0When required by 5.3.1.4, each disconnecting means mounted within or adjacent to a control enclosure that contains live parts operating at 50 volts ac (rms value) or 60 volts dc or more shall be mechanically or electrically interlocked, or both, with the control enclosure doors so that none of the doors open unless the power is disconnected. Interlocking shall be reactivated automatically when all the doors are closed.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Still regarding main disconnection of the control panel, it has been clarified that, if the main disconnector is outside the control panel, its position must be indicated. The necessary distances\u00a0(Chapter\u00a011) in front of a control panel are also aligned with those required by NEC edition 2020.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt;\">The issue is that a machine electrical equipment may have several disconnecting means, especially when it is made of a main electrical panel and a few subpanels. Supposing the machine is powered from one feeder source, each control panel may have a Disconnecting means, but only the main panel will have a <strong>Machine Supply Circuit Disconnecting Means<\/strong>. That is the reason the chapter has been reorganised in 3 paragraphs.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>            <\/div>\n        \n        \n                <div class=\"clear-both\"><\/div>\n        \n\n    <\/div>\n        <\/section>\n\n    \n\n\n\n\n    \n        <section\n            data-name=\"Contenuto testuale con immagine\"\n            class=\"bow-gte-testo-media u-spacer-base\"\n            id=\"\"\n        >\n            \n<div class=\"o-text-media px-side-spacer sm:px-side-spacer-sm lg:px-side-spacer-tablet 2xl:px-side-spacer-desktop flex flex-wrap items-start md:flex-row\">\n\n    \n\n                    <div \n                class=\"order-2 relative w-full\"\n            >\n                <div\n                    class=\"pt-6 space-y-6 w-full md:pt-0 md:space-y-4 lg:space-y-8 xl:space-y-9  md:pl-12 xl:pl-24\"\n                >\n                    \n        <div                class=\"m-headings\"\n            >\n    \n    \n<h4 class=\"a-heading text-left text-primary font-heading text-2xl lg:text-3xl xl:text-4xl font-normal mt-2 first:mt-0\">\n                    5.1 Machine Supply Circuit Disconnecting Means    <\/h4>\n        <\/div>\n    \n<div class=\"a-text font-text text-base normal mt-8 first:mt-0 space-y-4\">\n    <p style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt;\"><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">This paragraph gives requirements for the main panel only, not for other subpanels. In case the machine has more than one external disconnect, the main one, the one receiving the power from the premises, has to be properly marked. <strong>This is a new requirement, valid from 2021<\/strong>:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">5.1.9.3 A machine supply circuit disconnecting&nbsp; means shall be marked as &quot;Machine Supply Circuit Disconnect&quot; if additional disconnecting means are supplied from the supply circuit disconnecting&nbsp; means.<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt;text-align:justify;\">Important are the type of components that can be used for this function:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><b><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">5.1.10 Type.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">The machine supply circuit disconnecting means shall be one of the following types:<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">A listed motor circuit switch rated in horsepower;<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">A listed molded case circuit breaker;<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">A listed molded case switch;<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">An instantaneous trip circuit breaker that is part of a listed combination motor controller limited to single motor applications;<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">A listed self-protected combination controller limited to single motor applications;<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">An attachment plug and receptacle for cord connection.<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt;text-align:justify;\">Please consider that a switch certified to UL 508 is not suitable as machine supply circuit disconnecting means. The reason is the low SCCR that those components&nbsp;usually have.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        \n        \n    <\/div>\n        <\/section>\n\n    \n\n\n\n\n    \n        <section\n            data-name=\"Contenuto testuale con immagine\"\n            class=\"bow-gte-testo-media u-spacer-base\"\n            id=\"\"\n        >\n            \n<div class=\"o-text-media px-side-spacer sm:px-side-spacer-sm lg:px-side-spacer-tablet 2xl:px-side-spacer-desktop flex flex-wrap items-start md:block\">\n\n    \n                    <div class=\"mb-6 relative w-full md:mb-4 lg:mb-8 xl:mb-9\">\n                \n        <div                class=\"m-headings\"\n            >\n    \n    \n<h4 class=\"a-heading text-primary font-heading text-2xl lg:text-3xl xl:text-4xl normal mt-2 first:mt-0\">\n                    5.2 Additional Disconnecting Means    <\/h4>\n        <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n        \n        \n                    <div class=\"relative w-full\">\n                \n<div class=\"a-text font-text text-base normal mt-8 first:mt-0 space-y-4\">\n    <p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt;\"><span style=\"text-align:justify;\">This paragraph applies to disconnecting means other than the main one. Hereafter the type of component suitable for this function:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">5.5.4&nbsp;&nbsp; The following devices shall be permitted to fulfil the function of 5.2.1:<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">Devices described in 5.1.10.<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">A manual motor controller marked &ldquo;suitable as motor disconnect&rdquo; and in compliance with UL 508, <b>where located on the load side<\/b> of the last short-circuit protective device (in the branch).<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">System isolation equipment that incorporates control lockout stations and is listed for disconnection purposes where located on the load side of the machine supply circuit disconnecting means and overcurrent protection.<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt;\"><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">That means even if in a subpanel, a main disconnect cannot be a UL 508 disconnector.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt;\"><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">Several standards deal with the prevention of an unexpected startup: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt;\"><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">At <strong>international level:<\/strong> ISO 14118:2017:&nbsp;<em>Safety of machinery &mdash; Prevention of unexpected startup<\/em>;<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt;\"><span style=\"text-align:justify;\">In <strong>USA:<\/strong><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"> <\/span><\/span><\/span>ANSI\/ASSP Z244.12016<font face=\"Calibri, sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 14.6667px;\">:<\/span><\/font><em>The Control Of Hazardous Energy Lockout, Tagout And Alternative Methods;<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt;\"><span style=\"text-align:justify;\">In<strong> Canada<\/strong><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><b>:<\/b> <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt;\"><span style=\"text-align:justify;\">Z46013 (R2018): <em>Control of hazardous energy Lockout and other methods.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin:0cm 0cm 8pt;\"><span style=\"text-align:justify;\">NFPA 79 wants to state that, despite for isolation, only circuit breakers and disconnector are acceptable, for prevention of unexpected start-up, contactors are suitable for the scope.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">5.4.2&nbsp;&nbsp; Removal of power shall be accomplished by one of the following:<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">The machine supply circuit disconnecting means.<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0.0001pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><i><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:10.0pt\"><span style=\"line-height:107%\">Additional devices conforming to 5.1.10 or 5.2.2.<\/span><\/span><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt 36pt;
