The process has a certain &ldquo;<strong>Process Risk<\/strong>&rdquo;, that is the risk without the implementation of any Risk Reduction Measure (machinery safety terminology) or Protection layer (process terminology).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-align:justify;\">The risk is then reduced thanks to the implementation of protection layers, part of which is also the Safety Instrumented System (SIS). What is left is called &ldquo;<strong>Residual Risk<\/strong>&rdquo;. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom:0cm; margin:0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align:justify\"><span style=\"text-align:justify;\">Figure&nbsp;illustrates the general concepts of risk reduction.
