With <strong>MTTF<sub>D<\/sub><\/strong>, only the portion of dangerous failures is considered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The MTTF<sub>D<\/sub> is associated with the <strong>failure rate<\/strong> <strong>\u03bb<sub>D<\/sub><\/strong> referring only to dangerous faults. The failure rate has a variable trend over time, in particular, it is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 High and gradually decreasing at the beginning of the life of the component;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Constant until the estimated &#8220;<em>Useful life<\/em>&#8220;;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Increasing after exceeding the estimated &#8220;<em>Life time<\/em>&#8220;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The trend of \u03bb as a function of time is shown below. MTTF<sub>D<\/sub> with \u03bb<sub>D<\/sub>, EN 13849-1 makes the following simplifying assumptions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The component is considered <strong>to have already passed the first life stage<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The component supplier defines a &#8220;<strong>Mission time<\/strong>,&#8221; which is equivalent to the period during which the failure rate can be assumed to be constant. This is the key assumption underlying all functional safety standards, whether High Demand (ISO 13849-1 or IEC 62061) or Low Demand (IEC 61511), and represents the component&#8217;s useful life time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>With these assumptions, it can be shown that MTTF<sub>D<\/sub>=1\/\u03bb<sub>D<\/sub><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As mentioned above, the MTTF and MTTF<sub>D <\/sub>are statistical parameters, so they are neither a guarantee that the component will work before the time limit is exceeded, nor that, once this threshold is exceeded, the component will definitely fail.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is shown that, for example, in a batch of components with a MTTF<sub>D<\/sub>= 6 years, after 6 years , 63% of the components in the batch had a dangerous failure. In contrast, in a batch of components with a MTTF<sub>D<\/sub>= 60 years, past 6 years, only 10% of them have a dangerous failure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the side graphs, the statistical percentage of failed components as time increases for 4 different MTTF<sub>D<\/sub> values is shown.<\/p>\n<\/div>            <\/div>\n        \n        \n                <div class=\"clear-both\"><\/div>\n        \n\n    <\/div>\n        <\/section>\n\n    \n\n\n\n\n    \n        <section\n            data-name=\"Contenuto testuale con immagine\"\n            class=\"bow-gte-testo-media u-spacer-none\"\n            id=\"\"\n        >\n            \n<div class=\"o-text-media px-side-spacer sm:px-side-spacer-sm lg:px-side-spacer-tablet 2xl:px-side-spacer-desktop flex flex-wrap items-start flex-col\">\n\n    \n                    <div class=\"mb-6 relative w-full md:mb-4 lg:mb-8 xl:mb-9\">\n                \n        <div                class=\"m-headings\"\n            >\n    \n    \n<h4 class=\"a-heading text-left text-primary font-heading text-xl lg:text-2xl font-normal mt-2 first:mt-0\">\n                    International Standards dealing with MTTFd or B10d for components    <\/h4>\n        <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n        \n        \n                    <div class=\"relative w-full\">\n                \n<div class=\"a-text font-text text-base normal mt-8 first:mt-0 space-y-4\">\n    <p>Generally, when considering wear components, an additional statistical parameter called B<sub>10<\/sub> is defined. B<sub>10<\/sub> indicates the number of cycles beyond which 10 percent of the components under consideration by the manufacturer will fail. With B<sub>10D<\/sub>,on the other hand, only hazardous failures are considered.<\/p>\n<p>To calculate MTTF<sub>D<\/sub> from B<sub>10D<\/sub>, the following relationship can be used:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>MTTF<sub>D<\/sub>=\u00a0B10<sub>D<\/sub>\/0.1*n<sub>op<\/sub><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Where <span style=\"text-align: justify;\">n<sub>op<\/sub><\/span> represents the number of operations the component performs in a year<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The B<sub>10<\/sub> and B<sub>10D<\/sub> are generally provided by the manufacturer of the safety component. If such data are not available instead, the values provided by ISO 13849-1 can be used.
