It is used to define where the robot \u201cacts\u201d with respect to its coordinate system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Physically<\/strong>, this point <strong>is not always visible or represented by a part<\/strong>, but:<\/p>\n<p>It <strong>is sometimes materialized with a pin, ball, point, or marker<\/strong>, just to measure or verify it; Ideal for rigid components, with good accuracy.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Suction cups\/vacuum grippers:<\/strong> Use vacuum to lift flat or porous surfaces<\/li>\n<li><strong>Magnetic grippers:<\/strong> Perfect for ferrous materials, often with permanent or electromagnetic magnets .<\/li>\n<li><strong>Process-tools:<\/strong> Including: welding flashlights, paint nozzles, drilling, milling, chamfering tools<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sensors:<\/strong> Cameras, force\/torque sensors, ultrasonic, laser; used as much for vision and measurement as for feedback in delicate manipulations<\/li>\n<li><strong>Advanced types:<\/strong> Adhesives (capillary, van der Waals), soft-grippers (rubber), cryogenics, ultrasonic levitation, laser grippers for micro-manipulation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The end-effector is the \u201c<strong>hand of the robot<\/strong>\u201d-from a simple gripper to complex systems with tools and sensors. The choice depends heavily on various factors including the task it is to perform, the type of material and precision required, and the operating and regulatory environment.<\/p>\n<\/div> <p>In turn, the end effector could not have been assembled without the help of the <strong>mechanical interface<\/strong>, an interlock used to connect the actual structure of the robot, i.e., end effector + tool, to the robotic arm.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>[ISO 10218-1: 2025] <strong>3.1.2 Sub-assemblies and components<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.1.2.7 mechanical interface:<\/strong> mounting surface at the end of the manipulator (3.1.2.5) to which the end-effector (3.1.2.3) is attached.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <strong>mechanical interface<\/strong>, as mentioned earlier, is the connection point between the robot and the end-effector, and serves to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide<strong> physical support<\/strong> to the end-effector during the operational cycle.<\/li>\n<li>Transmit <strong>forces, moments, energy, control signals<\/strong> and sometimes <strong>sensory feedback<\/strong> between robot and tool.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Transmitted through the mechanical interface are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pneumatic, electrical, hydraulic<\/strong> (for grippers or tools).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Command signals and feedback<\/strong> for integrated sensors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is crucial as it provides rigidity, which is essential for mechanical operations, modularity, overload protection and versatile power supply.<\/p>\n<\/div> <p>In order for this set of parts to be used you need a part that acts as a conduit with the actuator to allow the movements, this is the manipulator, or manipulator.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>[ISO 10218-1: 2025] <strong>3.1.2 Sub-assemblies and components<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.1.2.5 manipulator:<\/strong> mechanism consisting of an arrangement of segments, jointed or sliding relative to one another<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The manipulator is the <strong>robotic arm<\/strong>, composed of a sequence of <strong>links<\/strong> (rigid segments) and <strong>joints<\/strong> (movement) that connect the <strong>base<\/strong> to the <strong>end-effector<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Links:<\/strong> rigid structures that determine the shape and scope of the operating space .<\/li>\n<li><strong>Joints:<\/strong> can be:<\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Revolute (revolute)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Prismatic<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Spherical<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Typically, a serial robot has <strong>6 joints<\/strong> (6 DoFs), which are needed to position and orient the end-effector at each point in the space.<\/p>\n<p>Each coupling includes:<\/p>\n<p>Actuators (electric servomotors \/ PMSM) coupled with gearboxes, to convert electrical energy into motion with precision and force.<\/p>\n<p>Gearboxes: increase torque and reduce speed, improving control and stability.<br \/>\nEncoders on motors for position and speed feedback in closed-loop control.<\/p>\n<p>Each coupling includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Actuators<\/strong> (electric servomotors \/ PMSM) coupled with gearboxes, to convert electrical energy into
