This aspects opens the door to the \u201cproven in use\u201d concept of<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em> IEC 61508-2, or<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: left;\">Listed in the informative <strong>annexes A to D of ISO 13849-2:2012<\/strong>, or <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: left;\">Made, verified and validated using principles which <strong>demonstrate its suitability and reliability for safety-related applications<\/strong> according to <strong>relevant product and application standards<\/strong>. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">It remains as a key guideline that a particular component can be considered as well-tried only if suitable for the specific application, considering for example the <strong>environmental influences<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">A <strong>switch with positive mode actuation<\/strong> is a well-tried component if it complies with <strong>IEC 60947-5-1, Annex K<\/strong>. That means if a manufacturer has a new switch in his product range and it complies with the above standard, it is a well-tried component from the first unit produced. However, if a manufacturer has a <strong>new component<\/strong><strong>\u00a0not mentioned in the annexes of ISO 13849-2<\/strong> and he wants it to be defined as well-tried, <strong>he needs to use it extensively first.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-align: justify;\">Those types of components are compulsory for <strong>Category 1<\/strong> (ISO 13849-1) and in <strong>Architecture A<\/strong> (IEC 62061), architecture without redundances and Diagnostic Coverage. In all other Categories and Architectures <strong>not well-tried components<\/strong> can be used, provided <strong>they have Reliability data<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">Despite opening the door to the<strong><em><span style=\"color: #008080;\"> <a style=\"color: #008080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gt-engineering.it\/en\/insights\/process-safety-processi-gt-engineering\/proven-in-use-e-prior-use-en\/\">Proven in Use<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/strong> concept, both standards make it clear that <strong>complex electronic components<\/strong> (e.g. PLC, microprocessor, application-specific integrated circuit) <strong>cannot be considered as equivalent to \u201cwell-tried\u201d<\/strong>.As a generak rule, the concept of well-tried components is not the same as Proven in Use according to IEC 61508 or Prior Use according IEC 61511-1.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin-bottom: 0cm; margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">There are PLC manufacturers that have input, and output Digital modules with reliability data, but only if used in <strong>a redundant (1oo2) configuration<\/strong>. The reason is that in a <strong>single configuration it would be a Category 1 according to ISO 13849-1<\/strong>\u00a0safety subsystem or Basic subsystem<em><span style=\"color: #008080;\"> <a style=\"color: #008080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gt-engineering.it\/en\/technical-standards\/en-iec-standards\/iec-62061-functional-safety-of-machineries469677178\/the-four-architectures2019550094\/\"><strong>Architecture A<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/em> according to <strong>IEC 62061<\/strong>. In which case, only well-tried components can be used.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">Examples of well-tried components are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0cm 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><strong>Power contactors<\/strong> built in conformity to IEC 609474-1<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0cm 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><strong>Auxiliary contactors<\/strong> built in conformity to EN 50205 or IEC 609475-1 and IEC 60947-4-1:2001, Annex F<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 0cm 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><strong>Relay<\/strong> but only built in conformity to IEC 618103<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt 36pt; text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pressure switch<\/strong> built in conformity to IEC 609475-1 for the electrical part and to the Annex B\/C for the pneumatic\/hydraulic part.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>            <\/div>\n        \n        \n                <div class=\"clear-both\"><\/div>\n        \n\n    <\/div>\n        <\/section>\n\n    \n\n\n\n\n    \n        <section\n            data-name=\"Contenuto testuale con immagine\"\n            class=\"bow-gte-testo-media u-spacer-sm\"\n            id=\"\"\n        >\n            \n<div class=\"o-text-media px-side-spacer sm:px-side-spacer-sm lg:px-side-spacer-tablet 2xl:px-side-spacer-desktop flex flex-wrap items-start md:block\">\n\n    \n                    <div class=\"mb-6 relative w-full md:mb-4 lg:mb-8 xl:mb-9\">\n                \n        <div                class=\"m-headings\"\n            >\n    \n    \n<h2 class=\"a-heading text-primary font-heading text-2xl lg:text-3xl xl:text-4xl font-normal mt-2 first:mt-0\">\n                    Conclusions    <\/h2>\n        <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n        \n        \n                    <div class=\"relative w-full\">\n                \n<div class=\"a-text font-text text-base normal mt-8 first:mt-0 space-y-4\">\n    <p><span style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">Use of Well-tried components is compulsory in single channel safety systems without diagnostics.
