That is one of the first statements you hear from people working in Collaborative Robotics. The reason is because the robot can be designed for a collaborative task, but it is the Application that makes the &ldquo;Robot Collaborative&rdquo;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The reference standard for Collaborative Application is&nbsp;<br \/>ISO\/TS 15066:2016 &#8211; ROBOTS AND ROBOTIC DEVICES &#8212; COLLABORATIVE ROBOTS<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Not only for the unfortunate title, the standard will be included in the new edition of 2 important standards on Robots:<br \/><strong>ISO 10218-1: <\/strong>Robotics &mdash; Safety requirements for robot systems in an industrial environment &mdash; Robots<br \/><strong>ISO 10218-2:<\/strong>&nbsp;Robotics &mdash; Safety requirements for robot systems in an industrial environment &mdash;&nbsp;Robot systems and integration<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In December 2021 both standards were at DIS Stage. They now fully include requirements for Collaborative Applications. For example in ISO 10218-1:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">[ISO 10218-1] 3.1.1.6&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Collaborative Application.<\/strong> Applications that implements one or more collaborative task(s)<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">[ISO 10218-1] 3.1.1.7 <strong>Collaborative Task.<\/strong> Portion of the robot sequence where both the robot application and operator(s) are within the same safeguarded space.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">There are four&nbsp;important functions a Robot needs to have in order to be suitable for Collaborative Applications:<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">1- Monitored-standstill<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">2- Hand-guided controls (<strong>HGC<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">3- Speed and separation monitoring (<strong>SSM<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;\">4- Power and force limiting (<strong>PFL<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<\/div>            <\/div>\n        \n        \n                <div class=\"clear-both\"><\/div>\n        \n\n    <\/div>\n        <\/section>\n\n    \n\n\n\n\n    \n        <section\n            data-name=\"Contenuto testuale con immagine\"\n            class=\"bow-gte-testo-media u-spacer-base\"\n            id=\"\"\n        >\n            \n<div class=\"o-text-media px-side-spacer sm:px-side-spacer-sm lg:px-side-spacer-tablet 2xl:px-side-spacer-desktop flex flex-wrap items-start md:block\">\n\n    \n                    <div class=\"mb-6 relative w-full md:mb-4 lg:mb-8 xl:mb-9\">\n                \n        <div                class=\"m-headings\"\n            >\n    \n    \n<h4 class=\"a-heading text-primary font-heading text-2xl lg:text-3xl xl:text-4xl normal mt-2 first:mt-0\">\n                    Monitored-standstill    <\/h4>\n        <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n        \n        \n                    <div class=\"relative w-full\">\n                \n<div class=\"a-text font-text text-base normal mt-8 first:mt-0 space-y-4\">\n    <p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It requires a software or device to pause the function of robot when the worker is coming closer to the robot in order to prevent dangerous motion. The function, in the new edition of ISO 10218-1 will be called &ldquo;monitored-standstill&rdquo; .<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>[ISO 10218-1] 3.1.8.4&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>monitored-standstill<\/strong>. Safety function that monitors the position after a stop while drive power is active &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE 1 <\/strong>to entry: In ISO 10218-2:2011, &quot;monitored-standstill&quot; was called &ldquo;safety-rated monitored stop&rdquo;.&nbsp;<br \/><strong>NOTE 2<\/strong> to entry: This safety function can also apply to the robot system,&nbsp;robot application,&nbsp;robot cell and other machinery. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>            <\/div>\n        \n        \n                <div class=\"clear-both\"><\/div>\n        \n\n    <\/div>\n        <\/section>\n\n system needs to have the following:&nbsp;<br \/>\u23af monitored-speed safety function&nbsp;<br \/>\u23af stop category 2 (IEC 60204-1) protective stop&nbsp;<br \/>\u23af monitored-standstill safety function&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A risk assessment needs to be done to determine the monitored-speed limit value<\/p>\n<\/div>            <\/div>\n        \n        \n specifying the minimum protective distance between a robot and an operator.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Collaborative applications using SSM can use a SPE that detects entrance into a safeguarded space or that monitors the presence of any person.&nbsp;<br \/>When a presence-sensing device like a laser scanner or a safety radar, is used to define the detection zones, the size and location of the detection zones shall be set so that the separation distance&nbsp;is maintained, even during detection zone transitions.
